CAMP FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are some of the most asked questions regarding Camp. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions at (973) 998-9199 or via e-mail at camp@morristownymca.org

When do we pick up T-shirts?
T-shirts are distributed during camp orientation which is scheduled for Thursday, June 13th, 2019 from 6:30PM-7:15PM at the Y-Zone. If you are unable to attend orientation, we will give them to your camper on their first day. You may also pick up t-shirts during normal Y-Zone hours. Please note that extra shirts must be purchased prior to the camp starting to ensure your camper has extra shirts. We do not have extra shirts for purchase.

What is the daily preferred method of communication?
We pride ourselves on being visible on campus for the campers and counselors, therefore we may not always answer the phone. You are welcomed to leave us a voice message or e-mail us at camp@morristownymca.org. We will get back to you as soon as we are able to.

Is there a primary counselor responsible for each group?
We assign a lead counselor to each group. However, in the event of an injury, the counselor who responded to the injury will be the one to contact you.

Do the belongings of the child stay with them all day via backpack or stored somewhere else?
There are designated spots for the campers to keep their backpacks. Lunches from home are put in a color coded wagon and brought indoors around 9:30AM. Please pack an icepack in your camper’s lunch bag if it needs to remain cool.

If there’s a heat advisory, are outside activities moved indoors?
With the addition of our new facility at 6 Saddle Road, more activities can be moved indoors should an advisory become active. Please keep in mind we are a camp and therefore spend a lot of time ourdoors, however, within a safe range of time. We also have wooded areas and tents to provide relief from the summer heat. Your camper's safety is our main priority.

Does sunscreen get reapplied during the day?
Please apply sunscreen to your camper prior to coming to camp each day. Our counselors will take “sun screen breaks” throughout the day. We can assist a camper if needed, however, our goal is to foster some independence. When choosing sunscreen, please purchase one your camper can apply with minimal help. The groups vary with the number of campers and it can be difficult for the counselor to apply sunscreen to each camper. Your camper should keep sunscreen (labeled with their name) in their backpack.

What is a typical schedule with basketball camp and changing into camp vs. basketball camp t-shirts?
If your camper is enrolled in basketball camp PLUS summer camp, he/she should come every morning in their assigned basketball shirt. Your camper will have the opportunity to change into his/her designated group camp shirt prior to returning to the Y-Zone.

Can someone other than the listed contacts on registration pick up the child (say, parent of another camper for carpooling)?
We require written notification of an alternate pickup. Please e-mail us the name and relationship of the person picking up the camer, as early as possible (camp@morristownymca.org).  We will check the ID and sign the camper out of our program. It is not recommended that you give out your pin number. If it will be a consistent pickup, the person will be assigned their own pin.

Is there an email distribution list for parents for notifications, reminders, etc.?
Each week we will e-mail a newsletter outlining the events and trips for the campers.

What is the earliest drop off/latest pick up times? Early pick up ok?
Normal camp hours are from 8:00AM-6:00PM. We offer an early morning drop off option of 7:15AM for an additional $35.00/week. You must register for early drop-off.  We prefer that you pick your child up after 4:00PM as he/she may not have returned from an off-site activity. However, in the event of an appointment, please notify the camp director ahead of time.  E-mail is the best form of communication (camp@morristownymca.org)

How many trained first aid staff are with kids on premises?
Our entire staff is required to have basic First Aid and CPR training. We have a few staff members who are also Lifeguard trained. For any serious injuries we will call 911 and alert the camper’s parents.

Where is medical room and AED located?
We have a medical room that is equipped with a cot, medical supplies, ice, and an AED device just off the front desk.

Does medication have to be sent in daily or kept at camp for the duration of summer?
Medications such as Epi-Pens and inhalers are kept in the groups medical bag, which is carried by a counselor at all times. We do not recommend keeping such items in the camper’s bags because they can be clear across the camp at any given time. We also require an Allergy Action Plan, which you can obtain through your camper’s doctor.

Do you have over-the-counter medication such as Advil, Tylenol, etc.? What is your prescribed medication procedure?
Medications of this nature need to be given to a Camp Director with written permission clearly stating the time, dates, and amount to be given, along with the camper’s full name. These medications are kept in the medical room out of the reach of the campers.

Where do campers change for swimming?
Campers change in the locker room at the YMCA (there are separate locker rooms for boys/girls). Counselors are in the locker rooms for assistance and crowd control.

My camper wears Silicone Ear Pieces in the pool - can someone help with insertion?
Sure! We can assist any camper with ear plugs.

What is the typical pool attire?
An appropriate swim-suit and towel are needed. Googles are optional and we recommend packing a plastic bag for the wet items.

Please inform a director at drop-off or e-mail the camp (camp@morristownymca.org)
